The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan came to speak in Charleston, SC at the King Street Palace September 20, 1990.
Brother Earnest X from headquarters in Chicago, Illinois started having study group meetings in Mt. Pleasant, SC in attempts to bring the light of Islam to the Low Country area. Then from 1991 Brother John X began teaching young people in high schools such as Stall High and recruited a few students from there. He also conducted lectures at the College Of Charleston.
Brother DeAndre' X now DeAndre' Muhammad, one of the recruits from Brother John X, started helping Brother John X in 1991 and joined the ranks in 1993. They continued to teach the people and traveled to the Mosque in Columbia for a time while having Monday F.O.I. training classes and Study Group meetings at Felix Pickney Community Center in Liberty Hill in August 1991.
After Brother John X; in 1992 Brothers such as Marcus X and Don X now Don Muhammad traveled from Columbia, SC to Charleston to teach and train the F.O.I., the men in the Nation of Islam. The M.G.T. & G.C.C. traveled to Columbia, SC on Saturday's for their training. They continued to meet on Friday's for Study Group and traveled to Columbia, SC for Sunday meetings.
July 1993 marked the acquisition of our current Study Group home at 1921 Reynolds Avenue in N. Charleston.
The first Student Minister that served in Charleston Study Group was Brother Oral X from Charleston, SC. His tenure ran from July-December 1993.
Then Brother DeAndre' X now DeAndre' Muhammad served in the Student Minister capacity from December 1993 until October 1994.
From October 1994 until December 2010 Brother Dennis Muhammad served as Student Minister of Charleston, SC.
Currently Bro. DeAndre' Muhammad serves as the Student Minister of Charleston, SC (December 2010 to Present).
